A rodeo weekend at River Ranch

Saturday night rodeo, horseback riding and an airboat ride on a real ranch, 90 minutes from Orlando.

The Florida nobody posts about has no palm trees and no theme parks. It has cattle, saddles, dust and an 800-kilo bull coming out of the chute at 7.30 pm on Saturday. Westgate River Ranch is a genuine dude ranch in the middle of the state, about 90 minutes from Orlando. Every Saturday night the 2,400-seat arena fills up for the rodeo: trick riding, barrel racing and bull riding, with athletes who compete on the circuit. It is loud, it is fast, and it is the kind of thing most children have never seen up close. The rest of the weekend is the ranch: horseback riding, an airboat ride through the marsh, swamp buggy, petting farm, ponies, climbing, zip line, mini golf and a water park. At night the saloon opens, with a mechanical bull and music. The RV site sits at the front of the property, next to the arena and the saloon. That is good and bad: you walk to the rodeo, and you hear the saloon. Anyone after absolute silence may prefer another trip. Anyone who wants to be in the middle of it is in the right place. An honest note about the facilities: the sites here are grass and the hookup is partial — water and 30 or 50 amp power, but no sewer at the site. There is a dump station on the property. For two nights that makes no practical difference, and we hand over the RV with the tanks ready. The rodeo runs on Saturday nights, so this itinerary only exists on dates that include a Saturday. _Campground and ticket information verified in July 2026 and subject to change by the suppliers._

Day-to-day

Friday — arriving at the ranch — Check-in and a first look around the property. Dinner at the Smokehouse on the River and a first night at the saloon, with the mechanical bull. The RV site is at the front of the property, a few minutes' walk from the arena and the saloon. Overnight: Westgate River Ranch Resort & Rodeo. Distance for the day: about 105 km (65 miles).
Saturday — ranch by day, rodeo by night — Morning horseback ride or airboat trip through the marsh. In the afternoon, the petting farm, ponies, climbing, mini golf and the River Country water park. At 7.30 pm the rodeo starts in the 2,400-seat arena, with trick riding, barrel racing and bull riding. Overnight: Westgate River Ranch Resort & Rodeo.
Sunday — coffee and the road back — A free morning for whatever you missed and departure after lunch. Distance for the day: about 105 km (65 miles).
